2021 WASSCE candidates to return Pasco or no WASSCE results – MoE
The news that the Ministry of Education is committing GH¢68m on Pasco for 2020/2021 WASSCE candidates has been questioned by Ghanaians.
In the wake of public outrage over the yearly ritual of government committing scare resources to the supply of past WASSCE questions, the Ministry of Education has indicated that beginning with the 2021 WASSCE candidates, beneficiaries of the government’s initiative will have to return the past questions and answers booklet after sitting for the 2021 WASSCE examination. Candidates who fail to do this will have their 2021 WASSCE results withheld.
This new directive according to the Deputy Minister for Education, John Ntim Fordjour is aimed at ensuring the Pasco initiative does not become a ritual and to ensure 2021 WASSCE candidates keep the supplies well and safe.
“Unlike last year that they took the WASSCE past questions away, this time we want them to return their copies after they have sat for the examination, next batch of Free SHS students will also benefit from them,” he indicated
To this end, the Ministry of education has directed all heads of public Second Cycle Schools nationwide to sensitize their 2021 WASSCE candidates on the new directive ahead that they are to booklets in a sound condition.
“We have tasked heads of schools to make sure the government property is returned back after the exams, candidates who fail to return the booklets would not be given clearance to receive their respective schools’ results,” John said.
He furthered that the government is looking at deploying technology to enable students to access the past questions online using the installed Wifi in schools.

One of the digital options the ministry is considering is the come out with a app or a website where students can access the past questions with the need for government to commit scare resources for printing hard copies.
The Ministry of Education and the government praised the provision of WASSCE past questions made available to the 2020 Free SHS graduates as one of the key government interventions that led to the excellent performance of students in the West African Examination for second cycle schools.
The ministry said the intervention “accounted for the sterling WASSCE 2020 performance which recorded over 50% A1 to C6 score in all core subjects as well as 411 out of 465 students who obtained A1 in all subjects, are Ghanaian students.”
