SHS3 boarding students Mid-Semester Break canceled as GES makes a U-turn
The Ghana Education Service (GES) announced the SHS3 Mid-Semester Break only to make a u-turn with its Mid-Semester Break announcement to final year students preparing for the 2021 WASSCE.

The GES disclosed hours after announcing a Mid-term break that final year boarding students are to remain in school. This directive has also been communicated to heads of schools to ensure compliance.
The students we scheduled to leave school break from 20th July and return to school for full academic work on 26th July.
It took the intervention of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) for the Ghana Education Service to have a change of mind. The SHS3 Mid-Semester Break canceled for boarding students was a result of the GHS concerns raised.
According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) the new Delta variant of the infamous coronavirus could pose a threat to schools should students be allowed to go home for the semester break.
The Health Service in a statement copied to Ghana24.or stated the GES’ decision to allow SHS students to go for mid-semester break may present a challenge to the already precarious situation that covid-19 presents to the general population.
“The scheduled period should be maintained but the midterm break should be restricted to campus and boarding students must not be allowed to go home,” the Ghana Health Service (GHS) stated in the release.
The planned SHS3 boarding students Mid Semester Break canceled means only day students will be on break. They will join their colleagues in the boarding schools on 26th July 2021 for the remaining section of the academic calendar for SHS3 students.

The Ghana Education Service has therefore directed all its regional Directors of Education and Heads of Senior High Schools to communicate the new SHS3 Mid-Semester Break update to students, parents, and members of the general public.
