IES Demands Opoku Prempeh Removed
IES demands Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister “Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh”removed, citing the deepening energy crisis as justification for his dismissal. The IES believes the current state of the energy sector demands urgent action, and the minister’s perceived inaction has led to their advocacy for his removal.
Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of IES, expressed his disappointment with the minister’s apparent disconnect from the reality of the energy situation in a Monday interview on Eyewitness News. He questioned the purpose of the minister’s presence in such a critical space, given the severity of the crisis. “What is the use of the minister in that space? He must be relieved, probably to concentrate on any other agenda he is bidding for. He must be relieved of his post. It is becoming too much.”
Nana Amoasi VII also took issue with the minister’s recent comments, which he deemed insulting and disrespectful to consumers. “For God’s sake, I am a prepaid consumer. I have paid for that power that you need to supply me. You chose to put a meter in my house at a fee, which is also a contract in form, and you took my money in advance. If I am not going to get the power, then at least tell me when I can have the power. But don’t look into my face and say I should go and produce my own timetable.”

The institute believes swift intervention is necessary to address the critical state of the energy sector and restore stability to the nation’s power supply.
