Fatima Alimohamed honored for excellence in FMCG
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of African Brands Warrior, Fatima Alimohamed has been conferred on the honorary award for excellence in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector of the year at the 4th edition of the prestigious Women’s Choice Awards Africa held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Friday December 2, 2022.
The 2022 Women’s Choice Awards Africa in its fourth edition celebrates women who are breaking the status quo, championing noble causes and setting remarkable paces across the continent.
Initiated by the Global Ovations Limited and partners in 2019, the annual awards scheme seeks to recognize, celebrate and project women who have stood tall amidst the gender imbalance and stereotype that has been perpetrated against the gender.
Fatima Alimohamed is an African and Kenyan of Indian ancestral heritage, a heroine and a changemaker known for her remarkable prowess in creating and rebranding various brands across Africa within various categories such as rice, edible oil, soaps & detergents, milk, tyres, cement, personal care, beverages, food, telecom among others.
She is equally an advocate for Africa and African brands with a solid track record across African markets that lead her to change from boots to heels where needed. Fatima is a thought leader in Strategy, Brand Development, Consumer Relationships, NPD, Marketing and Communication.
In Ghana, she is known for taking the Frytol brand that was bought over from Unilever by Wilmar to become Ghana’s Number 1 brand and in Uganda she was part of the team that developed Oil Palm Uganda and thereafter, the Bidco Uganda Palm Oil refinery in Jinja, later created and built the Fortune brand to take the leading brand position in a short span. Her current and past clients in the palm sector range from Mozambique, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Malawi, Zambia among others
As a woman of integrity and an excellent performer in her roles, Fatima’s enthralling achievements were celebrated and recognized on a bigger platform of the night to the admiration of the world on big stage when she was pronounced as the recipient of the honorary award for excellence in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector of the year.
This adds up to a long list of recognition conferred on spanning across the African continent and on the global level including making the list of the TOP 50 CMO’s Global award in Singapore and the TOP 100 Most Talented Marketers Global Award in India who got recently presented with a citation for Leadership Excellence by the African Women Leaders CMO Asia.
Fatima Alimohamed also in May 2018, was awarded in London, United Kingdom at two separate events the ‘Inspirational Woman of the year’ by Women4Africa and also won the award of Marketing Woman of the year by Win Trade London.
Similarly, in April 2019, Fatima was presented with the award of ‘Iconic Woman Building a better World’ by the Women Economic Forum (WEF) in Egypt as well as awarded for being an inspiration in her field in March 2020 by the Forum.
In Ghana, her massive humanitarian deeds equally paved way for her to be bestowed upon an accolade of the Mother of Ghana award for a social development brand cause and equally honoured and stooled as the Queen Mother (Nkosohemaa) in Memia, Western Ghana for her role in social development in the area of women and children.
This has earned her the title of a Queen Mother and a Local name ‘Nana Nyanzu’. She was yet again stooled as the Queen Mother in Hohoe in the Volta Region as Mama Dzomi Dor I.
Interestingly, Fatima has lived up to her titles in both regions, an agent of social development to have built modern school classrooms and completed boreholes in Memia as well as brought a consortium of Singapore Agri Investors to Hohoe to create an Agri-based value chain program to uplift the community through modern farming.
Fatima is referenced in various books by International University Professors when writing on Marketing in Africa. She supports the Strands of Pearls project in Ghana on mentoring young African girls on a project titled ‘Path of Hope’, and is known to be involved in many charities and scale up rural projects without talking about it publicly as she believes when the right hand gives, the left hand should never know.
Fatima is the essence of a true daughter of the African Soil. Her story is of an African woman who has stood against all odds and continued to defy all challenges thrown at her with her crown firmly in place.
Aside from her benevolent laurels, she doubles as an avid writer on marketing with publications to her credit on various media outlets as well as an astute speaker at International Conferences, Schools and Universities.
The colorful night dedicated to honor and celebrate excellence was graced by hosts of distinguished personalities including celebrities, traditional authorities, business moguls, government officials and the crème de la crème of the society.
The awards which came in two segments; (voting and honoree) witnessed fifty (50) winners honored and celebrated for their excellence in various fields of endeavor which is shaping humanity in positive ways.
Some notable personalities who were also recognized and honoured during the night include Oheneyere Gifty Anti, Berla Mundi, Jackie Appiah, Akumaa Mama, Zimbi, Joyce A. Bawah Mogtari Esq., Dr. Abena Asomaning Antwi, Nana Yaa Owusu-Ansah, Stacy Amoateng, Dr. Hannah-Lisa Tetteh and Menaye Donkor among others.
Enunciating her profound joy in an interview after the recognition, the celebrated CEO of the African Brands Warrior, Fatima Alimohamed observed that she feels very humbled for the honor to be crowned as the recipient of the honorary award for the FMCG sector of the year owing to her love for building brands in Africa and for Africans as an African.
While dedicating the honor in celebration of all women, she said: “So, for me, it means my work is being recognized and at the end of the day also winning an award as a woman means, I’m winning an award for every other woman.
“It is not about me, it is about women that came before me, women that are here and women that are coming in the future and it also goes to my daughter”.
