Teacher sentenced to five years in prison
A five-year prison sentence was imposed on Mr. Sampson Twi, a 56-year-old teacher, after he was found guilty of stealing GH¢ 69,209.34 from the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) in Wenchi, Bono region.
Before the Wenchi Magistrate court, which was presided over by Mr. Kojo Frimpong Manso, a relieving magistrate, Inspector Pamporo Kunsoyiri presented the case’s facts. At Buoku Methodist Junior High School (JHS), which is situated in the Bono neighborhood of the Wenchi Municipality, the prisoner is employed as a teacher.
The prosecutor stated that the prisoner asked the bank’s Wenchi branch for an overdraft in the sum of GH¢ 600.00. Although they granted the request, the bank’s management was not informed that the prisoner planned to steal from the company.

When the bank discovered the crime, branch manager Mr. Osei Boateng promptly reported the culprit, Mr. Twi, to the police. The authorities launched a thorough investigation, which led to the discovery of several incriminating items. These included two brand-new Android phones and a brand-new motorcycle with the registration number M-21-BA-4398. Furthermore, a significant amount of GH¢ 46,660 was traced to his phone, revealing the extent of his illegal activities.

As the investigation unfolded, Mr. Twi was brought to justice and faced the consequences of his actions. He pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, and the court handed down a fitting penalty. In addition to other sanctions, the court ordered the sale of the seized items, including the phones and motorcycle, to reimburse the bank for its losses. This outcome served as a warning to potential criminals, demonstrating the bank’s zero-tolerance policy towards fraudulent activities.
The swift action taken by Mr. Osei Boateng and the police ensured that justice was served, and the bank’s reputation was protected. The incident also highlighted the importance of vigilance and cooperation between financial institutions, law enforcement, and the community in preventing and combating crime. The brand-new Android phones and motorcycle, once symbols of Mr. Twi’s ill-gotten gains, will now be used to restore the bank’s finances, demonstrating the power of justice and accountability. The case serves as a deterrent and a great warning to potential fraudsters and fraudsters in general, emphasizing the seriousness with which financial institutions and law enforcement agencies view such atrocious crimes.
