Wednesday April 10, In a momentous announcement made today at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Yaw Oteng, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration of the Ghana Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA), proclaimed plans for a significant event set to take place in Ghana.
The press conference, attended by a diverse group of media representatives, marked the official declaration of Ghana’s hosting of the Sixth Council of Ministers’ Conference of the Consultative International Cashew Council (CICC), alongside the Cashew Research Dialogue, Cashew Fair, and Exhibition in Accra.
Scheduled from the 16th to the 20th of April 2024, this event promises to be a pivotal moment for the cashew industry in Ghana and beyond.
The CICC, established in 2016 as an international and intergovernmental organization, aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, innovation, and advocacy within the cashew value chain.
With 11 member countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo, the CICC plays a vital role in supporting the economic and social development of its member states through the advancement of the cashew sector.
The upcoming conference is a testament to Ghana’s dedication to the growth and prosperity of the cashew industry.
It presents a unique opportunity to showcase Ghana’s achievements in the sector, attract investment, and solidify its position as a leading player in the global cashew market.
Additionally, Ghana is being considered as the potential host for a research and training center for CICC member countries in Africa, with plans to upgrade the Wenchi Agriculture Station for this purpose.
The Cashew Research Dialogue, scheduled just before the main conference, will convene Ministers, experts, and researchers from member countries to exchange knowledge, address research gaps, and facilitate collaboration in driving innovation and policy decisions within the cashew industry.
This collaborative effort is poised to shape the future of cashew production and processing in the region.
Concurrently, the Cashew Expo and Exhibition, themed “Projecting the Cashew Sector through Local Consumption, Value Addition, and Job Creation,” will serve as a platform to showcase diverse cashew products, educate the public on their benefits, and connect local processors with potential markets.
This event is expected to boost local consumption, enhance value addition, and create opportunities for small and medium-sized cashew processors, contributing to the growth of the industry.
The anticipated outcomes of these events are significant for Ghana’s cashew sector, including increased visibility, foreign investment, and enhanced production, processing, and consumption of cashew products.
The collective efforts of stakeholders in the cashew value chain, along with the support of the broader community, are crucial in realizing the full potential of the industry.
