Noguchi alerts Ghanaians on dangers of deadly COVID-19 Delta Strain
The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) of the University of Ghana has indicated that the SAR-COV-2 Delta Strain has the ability to induce higher viral lead and spreads faster.
According to Noguchi, it has observed the Delta Strain COVID-19 since April this year. It added that those infected with the Coronavirus Delta Strain take a longer time to be cleared of the virus compared to the earlier strain when the disease was first recorded.
It furthered that records show the fast circulation of the new COVID-19 Delta Strain among the Ghanaian population
The current COVID-19 Delta Strain per the communique released by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has been linked to the number of viruses shed in droplets during sneezing, coughing, singing, talking, and related activities.
7.3% thus 840 out of the 6538 persons who walked in to take the test for the purposes of traveling or school had the COVID-19 Delta Strain.
It added that less than 80% of Ghana’s population is not vaccinated hence the country must be concerned should infected persons with the Delta Strain transmit the disease to unvaccinated individuals in the population.

It called on the government to take a second look at the state of adherence to the Covid-19 preventive measures and protocols instituted and ensure appropriate restrictions are enforced.
