COVID-19 UPDATE: 135 Achimota students discharged

In an effort to detect and contain Covid-19 in Achimota SHS, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has tested 1,118 samples.
This effort is aimed at ensuring the coronavirus outbreak in the school is contained.
135 Achimota students discharged
The GHS has said, out of the 183 who tested positive for the new Delta Variant, 135 patients have been treated and discharged whiles the remaining 48 are active and receiving treatment.
Those discharged based on Ghana’s 14 days discharge policy in place for managing patients who test positive.
Public Health Director at the Ghana Health Service Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe indicated that the 48 cases being managed are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
“The situation in the school and in the community is currently under control. Stakeholders must remain calm and continue to adhere to the safety protocols, whether or not they have been vaccinated,” he said.
He furthered that; the Delta Variant Covid-19 cases recorded in Achimota School has been an eye-opener that Covid-19 is in the community.
He, therefore, asked the need for the general public to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocols in their own interest and in the interest of the country.
“No one is safe until everybody is safe, meaning that we all have to wear the face mask, adhere to social distancing and the other preventive safety protocol”.He added whole updating the public and calling on everyone to be proactive and protect him or herself
After the COVID-19 in Achimota students, the school was put under partial lockdown to help contain the disease and safeguard the gains made.
Dr. Asiedu Bekoe disclosed that to ensure safety, all-day students have been directed to stay home for two weeks, school authorities are also restricting movement within the school environment to ensure the likelihood of spreading the disease is minimized.
The agitations that erupted when the news of the Delta Variant of Coronavirus broke up in the school has gone down and the school atmosphere is calm, students are going about their usual activities.
To ensure maximum security, the school’s security has been beefed with officers at all entry points subjecting all visiting questioning to ascertain where they are going and their reason for being in the area.

However, the Chairman of the Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah, said having gone to the school to assess the situation on the ground, the association was satisfied with the plans put in place to deal with the issue.
“The GHS and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have taken over and we are satisfied with the interventions put in place to control, curb and possibly help restore normalcy to the school.
“We know parents are anxious, but we will urge them to remain calm, as things are under control,” Dr. Kwasi-Kumah said.

Meanwhile, there is easy calm among parents of students of the school who are eager to see their children but are unable to do so due to the partial lockdown currently in place at the school. Parents and family who had visited their wards were, turned away, a situation that caused some anxiety.
