GES Suspends Headmistress Of O’Reilly Senior High School Over Unauthorized Money Collection
O’Reilly Senior High School mistress asked to step aside for allegedly collecting unauthorized SHS1 enrolment cash from parents
The Ghana Education Service has directed Ms. Nadia Lachechoe Annan, with staff ID number 281086, to step aside as headmistress of O’Reilly Senior High School for allegedly collecting what the Ghana Education Service described as an “unauthorized collection of money,” which was imposed on parents as part of the school’s admissions processing fees.
Based on the information obtained by the Ghana Education Service and the breach of aspects of the code of conduct of teachers stipulated for education workers in Ghana, the headmistress of O’Reilly Senior High School has been asked to step aside for investigations to be conducted into the matter.
She has also been directed to hand over the properties of the school to the District Director of Education of Ledzekuku, who will take charge in the interim. The Municipal Director of Education will therefore take over and have oversight responsibility for this school for the period of her absence and during the investigation.
The Ghana Education Service has determined it necessary to apply the whip and to ensure that all heads of free SHS in Ghana fall in line and do not charge any form of unauthorized fees to be paid by parents who are enrolling their SHS1 students into the various public senior high schools in Ghana.
It will be recalled that the GES has consistently informed parents not to pay any fees that have not been authorized by the Ghana Education Service.
It also requested that parents who are asked to make any unauthorized payment report such matters to the GES and the Ministry of Education for action to be taken. This is exactly what has happened, and there is an agent call on all heads of schools managing public senior high schools in the country to fall in line and observe the rules and regulations that guide the enrollment of first-year students into public senior high schools in Ghana.
