20 ‘new’ STEM school headmasters recruitment starts August -MoE

According to the Minister of Education, Honourable Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Government of Ghana (GoG) will select headmasters for the nearly-completed and equipped 20 STEM schools around the nation in August this year.

In an interview with Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that the twenty (20) STEM schools will be fully operational in January 2022 to welcome students for the next academic year.

“The school in 2022 will start admission but what we are going to do now is to frontload the Management aspect of it thus to recruit headmaster, so in August every STEM school will have a headmaster,” the Education Minister stated.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament said that the government through parliament would ensure that headmasters of STEM centers have all necessary equipment, including teaching materials, is accessible before the beginning of academic activities in January 2022

“Every one of these schools has a science laboratory, ICT laboratory and a library fully stocked with books, so all chemical supplies and equipment for teaching and learning will be ready before the schools reopen,” he said.

The Teaching Minister said that, in the wake of the worldwide coronavirus epidemic, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has decided to start the next academic year in January 2022 rather than September 2021.

The STEM school headmasters recruitment modalities are yet to be made public by the Ministry of Education.

Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Deputy Minister of Education, stated on Friday that brilliant and talented Ghanaian children from all around the nation will be eligible for admission in STEM schools under the Gifted and Talented Education Act (GATE).
