Patrick Vieira is Crystal Palace’s new manager

The English Premier League side Crystal Palace has signed on the former French footballer Patrick Vieira as its manager.
He comes back into the Premier League to succeed Roy Hodgson as the club’s new manager. Vieira who is a former captain of Arsenal was picked to manage the team after names of several equally capable team managers had popped up when Hodgson announced his departure from the club on May 18, 2021.
Patrick Vieira, now 45 signed a three-year contract with the club. Crystal Palace ended the 2020/2021 league season, placing 14th.
“I am really excited to have this opportunity to return to the Premier League,” said Vieira while speaking on his new role and return to England.
He added that the responsibility to lead the team is an important project that appeals to him that during his conversation with the chairman [Steve Parish] and the director of sporting [Dougie Freedman] the plans and ambitions for the entire Crystal Palace Football Club were discussed and shared.
The new manager for the Eagles believes the club has a solid foundation haven being in the English top football league for decades.
“The club has fantastic foundations in place after many years in the Premier League, and I hope we can make further improvements and continue to drive the club forward.” He said.
Vieira was sacked in December by French club Nice; he had also been in charge of the Major League Soccer side New York City for nearly two-and-a-half years. He also had the chance of working with juvenile clubs during which he started to develop his coaching career in the academy at Manchester City. This was a way of also giving back to Manchester City where his glorious professional footballing career ended in 2011.
While with the New York City, he helped them to secure two play-off appearances, the club also managed to place 7th and 5th when he was in charge at the French side Nice.
Crystal Palace new Manager- Patrick Vieira and his managerial competencies
Since Vieira emerged as the new manager for Crystal Palace, questions about his managerial competencies and experiences have popped up. While in charge at his last two clubs, he oversaw 90 games at the New York City and another 89 while at Nice in the French League 1. His exit from New York City was a personal choice however, at Nice, he was sacked in December 2020 and is currently an ITC pundit at the ongoing EURO 2020.
While at both clubs, he won no trophy however, Crystal Palace did not consider that as a requirement for the job. Crystal Palace itself cannot boast of any major trophy in their 116 years of footballing history.
The now new manager of Crystal Palace won more MLS regular-season games while managing the club than all other managers when he was in the US top football league but his team failed to win the play-off quarter-finals in both his full seasons while in charge. The loss includes a 7-0 aggregate loss in 2016 to Toronto.
While with NYC, he was popular for his attractive style of football, but this was lacking when he took over the job at Nice. His critics believe that his shortfalls that led to his sack from Nice in December included the lack of creativity, worrying issues regarding recruiting players for the club, and his failure to build a good thing from the players at his disposal. There were rumours that he had no control in the dressing room whiles his relationship with the fans of the club went bad over time as they turned against him.
League campaign with the Champions League winners Chelsea on 14 August. It is hoped that he will succeed with Crystal Palace.
