A fatal incident at the Apedwa portion of the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Eastern region has claimed the lives of at least nine (9) individuals, including a six-month-old baby.

At around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, a driver who has yet to be identified was driving a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with passengers on board from Nkawkaw to Accra when he made a reckless overtaking on reaching Apedwa pig farm junction and collided with a Burkinabe bound DAF trailer truck with registration number 2459 T1 03 driven by Yakouba Sanogo age 34.

The hit caused the vehicle to smash into the bush, killing nine passengers on the spot, including six female passengers, one of whom was a six-month-old baby, and three male adults.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the story to the media, adding that the victims’ remains had been transported and put at the Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

The rest of the injured people were taken to Suhum Hospital and Kibi Government Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, according to Ghana24 sources, some of the passengers are in critical condition.
