Why WASSCE and BECE 2021 candidates must pass their examinations
Success in education at any level is a good feeling and this must be the first motivating factor why WASSCE 2021, BECE 2021 candidates must pass their examinations.
Each year, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examines school candidates at the Junior and Senior High School levels.
The results of their assessment provide opportunities for students to know how well they have performed but, the results and their importance go beyond just passing the national and international examinations.
In this article, we examine the benefits of excelling as a WASSCE 2021 and BECE 2021 candidate.
Why WASSCE and BECE 2021 candidates must pass their examinations
Progression into a higher level of education
If there is any chance for a JHS or SHS graduate to gain admission into a high level of education to study, then it must be through passing the WASSCE or BECE.
Whiles obtaining very good grades opens doors for further studies for JHS students into the Secondary level, WASSCE offers the chance to be admitted into a university, college of education or a nursing training college among others.
Bad grades may lead to re-sitting the examination as a private candidate which would delay the JHS or WASSCE graduate for not less than a year.
WASSCE 2021, BECE 2021 can aid recruitment into security services
For students at both the JHS and SHS levels who want to enter any of the security services right after school, good grades are the fundamental requirements for enlistment for training.
The Ghana police, the Army, Customs and Excise and Preventive Service and the Ghana National Fire Service require applicants to obtain a minimum pass of not worse than C6 for WASSCE candidates. For some other categories of recruitment, BECE may be required.
Due to the above requirements, it is important that all candidates put in their maximum best to excel in the examination.
Scholarship opportunities
Sometimes very brilliant students at the SHS level have passed their WASSCE with flying colours, but have no financial support to help them further their education.
It took the intervention of the Government through the Scholarship Secretariat, NGOs, philanthropists, corporate organizations and religious bodies to support these brilliant graduates to study in a tertiary institution home or abroad.
This proves the Ghanaian proverb that “He who climbs a good tree is the one who gets assisted.”
Whether you are preparing for the WASSCE or BECE, there is the need to be motivated to do your best and push yourself beyond the ordinary to make history.
Free SHS
Although Free SHS has increased enrollment for candidates who write the national examination for Junior High School, it is prudent to put on record that not every student gets excited when the results and school placements are released.
A student’s failure to meet the pass mark or raw score would mean not being placed in any of the chosen schools, or even missing the opportunity to do a self-placement, which comes with its attended challenges.
If you are targeting a Senior High School after BECE, this is the time to take your study extra serious.
If you do not make the needed marks, you are likely to miss the glorious opportunity to be enrolled in a preferred secondary school or programme.
Junior High School and Senior High school final year students need to realise the investments of this nation in their education from Free Basic School, to enjoying free BECE registration, to Free SHS and free registration for WASSCE, you have no reason to fail these examinations.
There is every indication that WASSCE 2021, BECE 2021 candidates must pass their examinations, no matter the challenges that confront the education sector. You can make yourself and everyone proud, pass the WASSCE 2021 or BECE 2021 and you are on the road to success in your education.
