GES DG appointed chair of WAEC Ghana Examinations Committee
The West African Examinations Council – WAEC, GHANA has appointed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa as its new Examinations Committee chairperson. The committee is made up of representatives from CHASS, GNAT, and other stakeholders of education in Ghana.
Details about the new role for Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa was made public in an interview with Mrs. Rosemond Wilson, Head, Post Examinations Department – The West African Examinations Council – WAEC, GHANA monitored by Ghana24.org.
According to Mrs. Rosemon, the role of the WAEC Ghana Examinations Committee includes approving sanctions to be taken against all candidates of WAEC examinations who engage in any form of actions that are deemed examination malpractices by the council.
The committee can take punitive actions against students who take part in any form of malpractices during or after the examination conducted by WAEC for WASSCE schools
“WAEC after the conduct of the WASSCE report examination malpractice cases recorded during the WASSCE and those to be detected in the marking of the examination scripts to the Committee,” Mrs. Rosemond Wilson stated.

The WAEC official added that ” teachers or invigilators who engaged in malpractice and misconduct during the administration of the national examination are reported to the Ghana Education Service for administrative sanctions.”

The appointment of Prof Kwasi-Opoku Amankwa to the leadership role of the WAEC Examinations Committee for Ghana was made at the 69th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations (WAEC) this year. He will hold this position for one year.
