Give Teachers allowance for the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) – Private Schools told
Ghana Education News | Pay Private School Teachers allowance for CPD Training
The Executive Director of the National Council of Private School Teachers (NCOPST) has called on all private schools to pay private school teacher allowances toward their Continuous Professional Development Trainings.
According to NCOPST Director, Ackon K. James the Continuous Professional Development is a mandatory programme for all teachers which helps Teachers upgrade and update their skills in order for them to teach effectively for the development of private schools.
Private School Teachers Allowance will be critical in helping them address the financial commitments towards their professional development which helps the schools they work in as well.
He added that private school teachers have been denied many of their rights, entitlements, and benefits which is worrisome and retards the growth of private schools.
He stated clearly that, Private school teachers have been denied
1. Study leave with pay,
2. Single spine salary structure,
3. Maternity leave with pay,
4. Free quality healthcare,
5. Guarantee for loan,
6. CPD allowance
7. One teacher, one laptop
8. Part-payment of Teacher License fee and many more
In all these, the private school teachers are quiet and dying inside with no one rescuing them. With the same qualifications, their colleagues are enjoying all these benefits in the public sector.
Qualified Private School Teachers always want to leave for the public sector because of the bad conditions of service in the private schools in Ghana. On this note, NCOPST Director advised all private school owners and school management to make amendments and start Introducing the benefits one after the other for private school teachers to stay without having the feelings to leave for the public sector
Finally, he concluded that all private schools should give their teachers CPD allowance of at least Ghc50 per month.
No CPD Service Provider will charge Ghc50 per month but with NCOPST as a service provider, we can sacrifice and subsidize it for the teachers for the Ghc50 per month. Remember that, at least a primary school teacher must attend 3 CPDs in a term and JHS Teacher must attend 6 CPDs in a semester.

NCOPST as an accredited CPD service provider has an Examination portal (https://exams.ncopst.org) for all private school teachers who attend our CPD Programme purposely to show evidence of their credit points to NaSIA and NTC. They can print from the examination portal detailed CPDs particularly for the Untrain Teachers and we will enter detailed CPDs for Professional teachers on the NTC Website for them to acquire credit points leading to the renewal of their teacher License. Without the required CPD credit points no one can renew his or her teacher License.
