Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse assassinated
Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse has been assassinated (Killed) in an attack on his home in the nation’s capital, according to the country’s interim prime minister.
He was assassinated at his residence at his residence at night and his wife sustained injuries during the attack. This was made public by the interim prime minister, Claude Joseph.

The deadly attack on the presidential residence took place early hours of Wednesday, July 7th.
“A group of individuals who have not been identified, some of whom were speaking Spanish, attacked the private residence of the President of the Republic and fatally injured the Head of State,” the PM wrote. Joseph said the first lady was also shot but has survived the attack.
Mr. Claude Joseph reacting to the sad incident condemned the act calling it “odious, inhuman, and barbaric act”.
He has also called for calm and assured the people of Haiti and the international community that “All measures have been taken to ensure the continuity of the State and to protect the Nation. Democracy and the Republic will win out.”
2021 has seen mass protests by anti-government protesters. In February thousands hit the street and questioned the legitimacy of Moïse’s presidency.
The opposition had earlier on questioned why he was still in power however, the late President Jovenel Moïse insisted he had one additional year to serve the people of Haiti.
Earlier this year, the late President Jovenel Moïse said his security agencies were able to foil an assassination attempt in February. “I thank my head of security at the palace. The goal of these people was to make an attempt on my life… That plan was aborted.” he said after the earlier attempt.
Brief Biography of President Jovenel Moïse of Haiti
Jovenel Moïse was born on 26th June, 1968. He hard his tertiary education in Université Quisqueya and Collège Canado-Haïtien.

Before entering politics, he was already a successful entrepreneur in Haiti.
In 2016, he contested for the Presidential post of Haiti on the ticket of the Haitian Tèt Kale Party and was declared the winner of the elections. He was sworn in as president on February 7th, 2021.
His term in office started from February 7, 2017 – July 7, 2021, after he was assassinated at his private residence. He remained the President of Haiti from 2017 until his assassination on July 7, 2021.

He was married to Martine Marie Etienne Joseph. They had three children, namely Jomarlie Moïse, Joverlein Moïse, Jovenel Junior Moïse.
