Empower the youth to be self-reliant for a brighter future -H.E. Philipp Stalder
The Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Philipp Stalder has underscored the need for the youth to be enlightened so as to become self-reliant in order not to rely on government for provision of jobs and other opportunities but to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit to make a difference in life.
He equally challenged the youth to be committed in their actions and always endeavor to take bold initiatives which would eventually lead to total transformation of their lives without depending on any stronger force for survival.
“What I would like to underline is that we teach our youth not to rely on the government. We teach them entrepreneurship, we teach them that their fate is in their own hands and I think that’s the notion we have to transmit to the young people in Ghana”.
H.E. Philipp Stalder made this known while interacting with journalists on the sidelines of the ‘Discovery Teens Stakeholders Dialogue’ held on Wednesday October 19, 2021 at the Victory Bible Church Intl’ Headquarters located at Awoshie in Accra.
The event, a brainchild of the Discovery Teen Magazine supported by the Switzerland Embassy in Ghana and other partners seeks to generate a conversation about the critical need to institute coordinated measures to address adolescent issues.
It equally provided a platform for experts to highlight issues of critical concern to adolescents, the need for those who deal with them (parents, teachers, churches, school authorities and society) to appreciate their needs and provide appropriate solutions to address them.
According to the Founder of the Discovery Teen Magazine, Mercy Catherine Adjabeng, the need to organize the dialogue emanates from an earlier interaction with the adolescents which revealed that they have critical issues that ought to be addressed.
“After the prelaunch of the discovery teen magazine, we have had interactions with the adolescents we call them discovery teen chats”. “We have also had engagements with parents, the experts and professionals who deal with them and what has come to light is that there are critical issues to be addressed because the adolescents needs information, they need direction and they need to be helped to navigate through the process because they do not understand what is happening unto them.”
Mad. Adjabeng further hinted that the initiative was intended to holistically help deal with the challenges that confront the adolescents and chart a path for them that leads to policy direction to put those issues behind them.
Interacting with journalists in an interview, she disclosed that her outfit would be taking a bold step on the sidelines of the dialogue to petition the government through its agencies on the need to have a policy for adolescents, adding that “because this policy would help address those peculiar needs that the adolescent have”.
The event brought together some selected students numbering over 120 drawn from within 7 junior and second cycle institutions within the Greater Accra Region who were the beneficiaries.
Apart from having experts, professionals, teachers, diplomats, Rev. Ministers, Lawyers among other prominent personalities address, mentor, counsel and advise them, each of the beneficiaries were equally presented with a copy of the Discovery Teen Magazine free of charge by the event organizers to help empower them.
