Euro 2020 final: Italy Vs England – how it will be won and lost

The biggest football match of the day will be the Euro 2020 final when Italy Vs England kicks off. 

Nearly a month before the Euro 2020 final the Squadra Azzura of Italy started their campaign for European glory in the European Championship by trashing Turkey 3 goals to nil in Rome.

Today, they will face a giant [The English National Team] that is erupting and believing the trophy is coming home. 

Italian football manager will lead his charges. He believes the Italian national team would be the best holders of the title. They faced yet another fierce contender when they played Spain in the Semi-final but they came out victors after penalties to reach the finals.

However, the English fans have their own idea which is pushing the team on the field to believe and make history by winning the tournament. However, the manager of the Italian side has inspired his team making them believe when he took over that they can be champions of Europe. That dream is one game away from being realized and England stands in their way. Beating the Germans on their way to the finals was a great feeling for the English team and they will love to have that same experience with Italy when the final whistle goes. 

England started their campaign to the Euro 2020 final as one of the favourites as the tournament progressed.

The manager of the English national team, Southgate may not be that attractive however, no team can write them off given their success in the tournament.

The team is a well-balanced and effective one in every sector of the game including a very reach bench.

Although they need to surmount Denmark after penalties in the semi-final against Denmark to book their ticket for the final, Italy must not feel they have it all in their favour. What happened to the German machine could be repeated if the English side gets to play their game. 

Football success is measured on the pitch and won from the bench. In the Euro 2020 final, the two managers are expert tacticians. For the English manager Gareth Southgate we expect him to combine tactics used against the Germans and the Danish side to help foil every attempt of their Italian side to play their own game. If Southgate should play a back three or a back four, work on blocking the opposing wing-/full-backs of the Italian team, his team could create problems for the Squadra Azzura of Italy. The English manager was more cautious for nearly an hour in the game against Germany and was seen ensuring his players put his strategy of making the wing-backs defend. This was a perfect plan that delivers the results.

The Italian side is a totally different one and it is usual of them to playback four rather than a back three as was done by the German machine, Denmark and Ukraine who got trampled.

In the match Italy played against Spain, the losers possed and controlled the midfield with Jorginho, Marco Verratti and Nicolò Barella doing what they know best.

But the English team can not boast of players capable of imitating the likes of Luis Enrique’s Spanish players. 

If the English side is to play above themselves, in the Euro 2020 against Italy, they must take a second look at the game between Italy and Austria. This game provides more evidence on how Austria made it difficult for the Italians to possess the ball. A good template for the English side is the knockout game in the last-16 stage between Italy and Austria which showed that the Italians are vulnerable if you can possess the ball well.

Italy showed it can be dangerous on the left when there is a good link between Leonardo Spinazzola and Lorenzo Insigne.

Throughout the tournament, Italy waged 24% of their total attacks from the left than they did from the right. Should the English manager fail to foil these attacks led and initiated by Emerson the English side will be in terrible danger because such attacks make Insigne more dangerous.

On the day when today’s match, the Euro 2020 final game is played between Italy Vs England who will win or lose will be dependent on the tactics of the two managers and the hunger for success in the teams on the field.
