A devastating stormy downpour has ravaged the Jachie township in the Bosomtwe district of the Ashanti Region, leaving hundreds of residents displaced and their homes destroyed. The torrential rains, which hit the area on Thursday night, tore off the roofs of over 50 houses, destroying valuables and structures, and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The displaced residents are in a state of shock and awe, watching their belongings soak in water and their homes crashed by the heavy winds. The scene is one of utter devastation, with roofs ripped off, walls collapsed, and interiors exposed to the elements. According to eyewitnesses, the stormy winds were so strong that they ripped off the roofs of hundreds of rooms, leaving the interiors exposed to the direct sun and atmosphere. One of the affected residents, Paa Willie, described the scene: “My room is the one that has been covered with pieces of concrete blocks and pieces of roofing sheets. I have not slept nor entered there since the beginning of the rain at 4pm.” Another resident, Kwasi Oppong Broni, lamented: “Over 13 rooms of my house and 30 tenants have suffered greatly. Not even one of the items they are picking here can work anymore.”
The victims, who are yet to recover from the effects of the heavy rain and wind, are wandering the streets, seeking shelter and assistance. The Chief Executive Officer of the Bosomtwe District, Joseph Assuming, has sympathized with the victims, promising a swift intervention. “We are very saddened by what has happened. We are not yet done with the assessment to ascertain the damage, but we will deliver mattresses as an immediate intervention whilst we work around the clock to support them better in the meantime,” he said.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officials are assessing the devastation in the community, working to provide immediate assistance to the affected residents. The organization has promised to deliver mattresses and other essential items to the victims, while working to provide a more permanent solution to their housing needs.
