Upcoming Event: Promoting Inclusive Energy Transition in West Africa at Future of Energy Conference 2024
Accra, Ghana – Spaces for Change (S4C) is set to host a pivotal side event during the Future of Energy Conference (FEC 2024), focusing on the pressing issue of energy transition in West Africa.
Titled “Promoting Inclusive Energy Transition in West Africa: Ensuring Equity for Oil-Rich Communities,” this event will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM at the renowned Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The FEC 2024 is a crucial gathering that underscores the global shift toward net-zero emissions, with over 70 countries, including several in Africa, pledging to commit to this essential goal.
In West Africa, where there is a profound complexity of energy resources and environmental challenges, this transition is particularly significant.
Countries in the region are actively developing and implementing national energy transition plans that strive to harmonize economic growth with ecological sustainability.
These plans often incorporate natural gas and other transitional fuels as part of a broader strategy to gradually embrace cleaner energy sources, reflecting a commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
The side event hosted by S4C, in collaboration with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), aims to ensure that the perspectives of marginalized groups, particularly those from oil-rich communities, are included in the energy transition dialogue.
The event will feature a multi-stakeholder dialogue that brings together various stakeholders from the energy sector, including policymakers, industry leaders, and community advocates.
Key discussions will revolve around the progress made thus far, the challenges that communities face, and the critical importance of inclusivity in realizing a sustainable and equitable energy transition.
The event seeks not only to highlight existing disparities but also to propose actionable solutions that incorporate diverse viewpoints into the energy transformation process.
This dialogue is timely, as West Africa navigates its energy transition amidst urgent climate concerns.
Participants will have the opportunity to exchange insights, share best practices, and collaboratively explore pathways toward a more inclusive energy future.
Registration is open for those who wish to participate virtually. Interested individuals can register at https://rb.gy/c3mude
Stay tuned for updates on this important event as we work toward a more equitable energy transition in West Africa.
