As Ghana approaches a pivotal electoral period, the need for a robust conversation on civil rights and freedoms has never been more critical.
Mark your calendars for August 29, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Accra City Hotel, where leaders from various sectors will unite for the launch of the Civic Space Outlook documentary.
This landmark event will feature key figures, including Joseph Kobla Wemakor, Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana and Convener of the Ghana Civil Society Organizations Platform on SDGs (Youth Sub-platform).
Drawing from his extensive activism and civic engagement experience, Mr. Wemakor will address the pressing challenges within Ghana’s civic space and the urgent need for collective action to uphold citizens’ rights during this vital time.
The panel will also include influential voices such as Bertha Badu-Agyei, News Editor at the Ghana News Agency, who will discuss the media’s role in ensuring transparency and encouraging civic participation during elections.
Vera Addo, Programs Officer at CDD-Ghana, will share vital research highlighting informed citizen participation’s role in fostering democracy.
Additionally, Mercy Larbi, Deputy Commissioner at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, will shed light on crucial human rights issues.
Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, will emphasize the importance of press freedom and the challenges faced by journalists reporting on civic matters.
Organized by the dynamic non-profit Spaces For Change, with support from the Ford Foundation’s Civic Space Resource Hub, this event aims to enhance dialogue among stakeholders, foster collaboration to address shared challenges, and devise strategies for defending democracy.
