NPP Dome Kwabenya chairman refutes allegations at press conference

Robert Osei Bonsu, the Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Dome Kwabenya, held a press conference on February 24, 2025, to address serious allegations made by a group identifying itself as the “Concerned Youth of NPP.”
The conference, held at the residence of former Speaker of Parliament, Aaron Mike Oquaye, aimed to clarify the party’s stance on various contentious issues raised by the group.
Key Allegations and Responses
Manipulation of Polling Station Elections
Bonsu strongly denied claims that constituency executives manipulated polling station elections to favour certain candidates. He clarified that an independent national committee, comprising regional representatives and party elders, oversaw the election process. “The constituency executives had no control over this process,” he asserted, emphasizing the integrity of the electoral framework.
Removal of Polling Station Executives
The chairman refuted accusations that 600 polling station executives were removed from the constituency album as part of a “diabolical agenda.” Bonsu stated that all existing executives were allowed to retain their positions, with no documented removals. He challenged the concerned group to provide evidence of the alleged removals, which they failed to do when previously requested.
Legal Action Against the Party
Bonsu highlighted that the concerned group had previously initiated legal actions against the NPP but lost both cases in court. He questioned their continued grievances, asking, “What more do they want?” This statement underscored the party’s commitment to legal and procedural integrity.
Electoral Area Coordinators’ Elections
Concerns regarding the conduct of the Electoral Area Coordinators’ elections were dismissed by Bonsu, who pointed out that members of the concerned group lost their respective contests. He noted that the elections were conducted smoothly and without incidents of misconduct.
Impact of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo’s Non-Participation
Bonsu was particularly critical of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, the constituency’s MP, citing her lack of involvement in party activities as a significant factor contributing to the NPP’s poor performance in the 2024 elections. He stated, “Her absence during crucial campaign periods and refusal to engage with constituents alienated voters and led to a loss of support.”
Conclusion and Call for Unity
In his closing remarks, Bonsu reiterated the importance of unity within the party. He expressed a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the NPP in Dome Kwabenya and called for constructive dialogue among party members. “We must work together to reclaim our lost glory,” he urged, signaling a desire for collaboration moving forward.
The press conference served as a platform for the NPP leadership to assert their position against the allegations and to reinforce their commitment to transparency and accountability within the party structure
