Covid-19 delta strain: President Akufo Addo to give 26th COVID-19 Address tonight 

In the wake of the deadly and fast-spreading COVID-19 Delta Strain within Ghanaian communities nationwide, the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Akufo Addo will address the nation on measures taken to address the COVID-19 pandemic, updates on cases as well as strategies to be deployed by the state to safeguard the population and keep the economy stabled. 

The 26th National Address on Measures taken against the spread of Covid-19 will be live at 20:00 GMT on all major television, radio, and online platforms per the information made public by the Ministry of Information.

Ina related development the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) of the University of Ghana has cautioned Ghanaians on the new SAR-COV-2 Delta Strain. The research institute has indicated that the COVID-19 Delta Strain has the ability to induce higher viral lead and spreads faster.

In its Brief Communique copied to Ghana24.org, it called on the government to intensify COVID-19 protocol enforcement because of the community spread of the variant and the fact that close to 80% of the Ghanaian people have not been vaccinated.

Noguchi furthered that 7.3% thus 840 out of the 6538 persons who walked in to take the test for the purposes of traveling or school had the COVID-19 Delta Strain.

This, it said, increases the chances of infections of unvaccinated members of society.

In recent times, Ghana’s seem to have dropped their guard and the adherence to the wearing of nose masks, hand washing, and the strict enforcement of covid-19 protocols at all functions. The current attitude towards the coronavirus breads fertile grounds for the fast-spreading delta variant. 

It is expected that the president will call on Ghana Health Service, the police, and other state actors to ensure the strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols.
